What protection is available against domestic violence?

Asked by Name Withheld on 04-04-2026 08:00 PM
Question:
I am facing physical and verbal abuse at home. I do not have an independent income. What legal protection can I seek?
Answer:
A person facing domestic violence may seek protection orders, residence-related relief, monetary relief, compensation and other remedies under the applicable law. A complaint may be made through the Protection Officer, police, recognised service provider or directly before the jurisdictional Magistrate. In an emergency or immediate danger, contact the police or an appropriate emergency service without delay. The available remedies depend on the relationship, residence, incidents and supporting evidence.
